Dental students at Al-Baath University provide prosthetic treatments to patients at the Evangelical Elderly Home

Fourth year students at the Faculty of Dentistry at Al-Baath University implemented a voluntary initiative to provide free compensatory treatments for patients residing in the Evangelical Elderly Home under the supervision of the faculty’s professors.

The President of Al-Baath University, Dr. Abdul Basit Al-Khatib, confirmed in a statement to SANA reporter that the various activities that are carried out inside or outside the university campus help students to form relationships with different groups and learn about the practical reality, considering that providing assistance in the nursing home comes within the framework of human communication with the elderly and easing suffering for them.

The Dean of the College of Dentistry at the university, Dr. Qusay Al-Munajjid, referred to the academic educational role of the college and its endeavor to spread a culture of awareness of oral and dental health and how to preserve it, and to encourage community service and volunteer work.

In turn, Dr. Ibrahim Turkmani, a teacher of mobile prosthetics courses at the college, explained that this voluntary initiative was with the participation of 27 male and female students who worked hard and persevered to provide their services to the elderly and resulted in a distinguished experience for students and good treatments for patients with prosthetic devices with high specifications and free of charge.

The supervisors of the Department of Mobile Prosthetics at the college, Dr. Farouk Ghalioun and Dr. Muhammad Nawar Sharafou, pointed out the importance of the initiative in terms of achieving great scientific benefit for students because the oral pathology cases were different.

Each of the students, Amal Al-Akhwan, George Lovelove, Roni Gerios and Maram Shehab, considered that the volunteer experience was just an idea and later turned into reality and results on the ground, noting some of the difficulties that encountered their work in the beginning with the elderly, but it soon became a state of coexistence with them for a semester Full.

For her part, the director of the home, Majdoleen Ibrahim, expressed her happiness with this initiative that Al-Baath University presented to the elderly, who numbered 50 inmates.
