The Central District Attorney's Office (Criminal) today submitted to the Central District Court, on its session as the Juvenile Court, an indictment against a 17-year-old minor from the Ramallah area, for the offense of aggravated murder after he ran over the late policeman Barak Meshulam a month ago.
According to the indictment, submitted by attorney Shimon Levy, the accused entered Israel without an entry visa, stole a car and drove it from Holon towards the north, at high speed and without traffic lights, with the aim of getting him out of Israel. Since the car was equipped with an Ituran system , with the theft of the vehicle, a complaint was made to the Israel Police. Near the Ganot interchange, the police noticed the vehicle, activated a siren and announced to the defendant to stop several times, in Hebrew and Arabic. The defendant, who noticed the patrol car that had turned on after him, did not respond to the policemen's calls and drove north towards the Ra'anana junction Wildly, at an average speed of 145 km/h.
Following a report about the defendant's route to the police liaison, the late police officer Barak Meshulam drove towards the Ra'anana intersection and blocked it for traffic coming from the south. The defendant, who was approaching the Ra'anana intersection, noticed the roadblock ahead of time, and in response to this, sharply veered into the lane in front of her to the right. The deceased, who noticed Changing the direction of the defendant's journey, he ran, stood on the traffic block at the intersection and quickly deployed a portable barbed wire barrier in order to stop the defendant.
While the deceased was standing on the traffic block, the accused continued his journey and drove onto the traffic block with the vehicle at high speed and wildly while hitting the deceased with the right front of the vehicle.
As a result of the trampling, the deceased suffered, among other things, a severe head injury, and his death was determined on the spot.
After the run over, the defendant continued to drive fast until he hit the concrete pipe, at which time he was hit with great force and his speed was slowed down.
The accused continued to escape from the police by running, through vegetation, into the city of Kfar Saba and did not respond to their calls even when they fired several shots into the air.
About half an hour after the incident, the accused was found and arrested in the city of Kfar Saba.
At the same time as the indictment, a request was submitted to extend the defendant's detention until the end of the legal proceedings, within which Attorney Levy stated: "The defendant's actions show his disdain for the law, and for the police officers entrusted with its enforcement.
Even when the respondent noticed a police checkpoint at the Ra'anana intersection, he chose to continue driving wildly and not stop, even at the possible cost of harming human life.
The respondent's wild entry into the intersection, while driving on a traffic island built for pedestrians, unfortunately caused the death of the late police officer Barak Meshulam, who tried to stop the respondent's rampage on the road.
