The French authorities announced that the fires that broke out yesterday and the day before yesterday caused the elimination of more than 350 hectares of vegetation cover in the province of Brittany, located in northwestern France.
"In Finistère, in the far west, the fires in the Aare Mountains burned about 250 hectares of vegetation, despite the efforts of two hundred firefighters present at the site," the French channel Monte Carlo quoted the provincial council as saying.
The council noted that firefighters from other departments came to the site as reinforcements, while many farmers are on the site and are helping the firefighters to build firewalls.
In the province of Morbihan, the fires destroyed 75 hectares of vegetation cover also on last Saturday and Sunday, and about 15 areas were damaged by the fires that affected the natural areas and whose spread was easy due to severe drought and strong winds.
In Everdern, a coastal town not far from the Quiberon peninsula, more than 25 hectares of land were burned and about thirty homes were evacuated as the fires approached.
It is noteworthy that France, like most Western European countries, is currently experiencing a strong heat wave, which is the third since last June.
Experts believe that the increase in heat waves is a direct result of climate warming, which increases their intensity, frequency and duration.
