When you enter this apartment in Yad Eliyahu, a sense of calm immediately washes over the observers, for a moment it seems that we have arrived at a rural boutique hotel in the north. The apartment designed by Eyal Cohen belongs to a man in his 50s, single, who has been a sanitation worker in Tel Aviv municipality for over 30 years. He shares the apartment with a special Labrador retriever who helps autistic children.

This house is a dream come true for him - he grew up in south Tel Aviv, In a Keshet Yom family that included a father who was a gambler and a mother who did not work. Cohen says that the tenant dreamed all his life of becoming independent and buying himself an apartment, which he would design as he dreams and loves. He was not able to fulfill many of his wishes, but he did not agree to compromise on the matter of the apartment. He decided to invest in the apartment Everything he saved in years of hard and tedious work.

"This is not an apartment in which the design is valid for this season of the year or the decade, this is an apartment in which every item has received deep thought."

This is not a trendy apartment, according to him, "This is not an apartment whose design is valid for this season of the year or this decade, this is an apartment where every item has received deep thought out of a desire to create peace for the client for years without compromising on anything," he says.

A few months ago, the tenant decided to make a total change in the 5-room apartment he purchased in the Yad Eliyahu neighborhood in south Tel Aviv, and turned to Cohen to redesign it.

It was a standard apartment in an old building, which he wanted to turn into a place he would be excited to come and stay in.

The owner of the house had never been abroad, so Cohen designed a house for him in the atmosphere of a luxury boutique hotel. The bedroom (Photo: Maor Moyal)

"My work process includes emotional support on the way to the realization of the dream, it was important for me to stand up for the tenant's character, dreams, desires and needs," says Cohen.

"One of the main things that resonated with us all along is that he has never visited abroad and the number of times he stayed in a hotel in Israel is very few.

It was clear to us that we would design this apartment as a warm and pleasant luxury boutique hotel that creates an atmosphere of home, emphasizing the unique character of the kitchen, since the owner of the house cultivates a great love for cooking and baking."

The choice of materials was made from a practical point of view seeking to produce an experience of emotion adapted to the character of the person.

Despite the high emotional involvement, the client did not intervene in the work process and only asked Cohen to create "the most beautiful apartment" for him.

The colors chosen for the walls of the house are dark stone colors that give the apartment a feeling of warmth, calmness, an enveloping embrace and high energy.

Even the splashes of turquoise and light blue incorporated in the various spaces create a sense of security and calm.

There is no space or corner in the house that has not received attention and consideration, including thinking ahead to the day when the owner decides to change or replace this or that item.

In the living room hung a work of art that was custom-made for the client according to his life story, by the artist Roy Zanti.

In the picture where wild flowers are visible, the artist wanted to emphasize that like the wild plants, the owner of this house can also move on and continue to the fulfillment of his next dream.

"The process of working with the client was fascinating and exciting. We discovered a warm and loving man, full of giving and a desire to lay his head on the pillow, look around and say to himself 'I've arrived home,'" shares the designer.

Two months of hard work, which included demolishing the apartment from the ground up, replacing the kitchen and enlarging it, and increasing the space of the apartment at the expense of one of the bedrooms, led to a result that brought the owner of the apartment to tears of excitement upon receiving the key to his renovated apartment, according to Cohen.
