John Travolta pays tribute to Olivia Newton-John: "Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!"

Actor John Travolta, who co-starred with Olivia Newton-John in the hit musical film "Grease," released a statement in tribute to the singer who died Aug. 8 at age 73. 

"My dear Olivia, you made our lives so much better," the actor wrote on Instagram.

"Your impact was incredible. I love you so much."

Newton-John and Travolta gained international fame in 1978 when they played bad boy Danny and sweet Sandy in the movie musical "Grease."

Just a few years ago, the couple reminisced about their roles on a special night in West Palm Beach, Florida, when they attended a theme song and a question-and-answer session at Coral Sky Amphitheatre.

Travolta had acted in "Grease" on Broadway.

Stockard Channing has bounced back and forth between film, television and the stage since playing Rizzo in the 1978 film. Among his credits: the John Guare plays "The House of Blue Leaves" and "Six Degrees of Separation ";

the film version of "Six Degrees";

and the television series "The West Wing" and "The Good Wife."

Jeff Conaway was a veteran of Broadway's "Grease" when he played Kenickie in the film version.

After the movie, he played Bobby in "Taxi," but while he also appeared in "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "Babylon 5," substance abuse issues derailed his career.

Didi Conn, who played Frenchy in the 1978 film, has appeared in a variety of television series, including "Shining Time Station."

She has a small role in "Grease: Live".

Newton-John wore her signature yellow skirt and matching cardigan that she completed with her white shirt.

Travolta wore a classic leather jacket, with his hair slicked back.

It was the first time the two had characterized each other since they first made the film more than 40 years ago, Newton-John wrote on Instagram at the time.

In his tribute, Travolta added: "We'll see each other down the road and we'll all be together again."

He signed it: "Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John."
