The medieval spectacle "Schongauer Sommer" lured people back to the fairground on the first weekend.

For eleven days, the guests are enchanted into another time.

Craftsmen, artists, musicians, cooks and jugglers have set up their tent city in front of the Lechstadt gates.

Schongau

– The fairground has turned into a great tent and booth village.

There is lively activity.

Dealers, musicians, junk dealers, lay-on hands, craftsmen and also some of the visitors wear historical garments.

The Middle Ages welcomes its guests: When the weather is mixed, curiosity is high.

"Who's back, who's new in the ranks of Friends of the Middle Ages," was the question during a visit on Saturday.

A real treat immediately to the left after the entrance.

Lorenz (85) and Maria (86) Gruber have come from the Upper Palatinate.

From 2001, the rake and chip basket maker was there for twelve years, when the market was still organized in the old town.

After that, the couple had to process invitations from Krems an der Donau to Koblenz.

Now almost "back to the roots" to Schongau.

Luminous necklaces and bracelets

One of his specialties are baskets made from oak shavings, which he makes himself from green oak trunks.

This means that Gruber pushes the green trunks into an oven, then pulls off the two-meter-long, soft wood fibers under the bark.

"Everything without tools," says Gruber.

From this he then makes his humpback Kraxn.

Monika & Bernhard are the first time in Schongau.

She makes glowing necklaces and bracelets from glass beads.

Above all, historical replicas of Viking jewelry are their specialty.

Bernhard has specialized in special drinking horns.

Noble individual pieces are made from the horns of the Indian Watussi cattle.

There are also mounts made of leather or wrought iron.

Animal figures made of wood and papier-mâché

You can inaugurate your drinking horns right away at Erich's stand opposite.

He runs the "Moosbacher Hexenküche".

A true oasis of all drinks fortified with mead.

Tasty, tasty.

Erich is proud that all drinks are made in his witch's kitchen.

Above all, his specialty "Mead in the fermentation stage" is in great demand among visitors.

In addition to Erich, another newcomer: “Quarkmalerey” is offered by Jörg from East Thuringia.

Here you can imaginatively paint animal figures made of wood and papier-mâché.

Fun for young and old. He also offers small pieces of jewelry made of mica slate and precious wood.

The witch flight school is also there

Markus has set up his “Art Asia” camp opposite.

His old Himalayan singing bowls and Indian temple bells lure you in.

There are also plenty of fabulous animals and brass dance bells available for purchase.

A few steps further, Master Friedrich lets his shavings fly.

The master of hurdy-gurdy construction is already part of the permanent inventory of the market.

For a small drink he will even play the hurdy-gurdy.

"But no small change, please, I'm allergic to copper," was his amusingly formulated request to the visitors.

The "seer woman" Tania

Karsten's witch flight school should definitely not be missed.

Been there for years, popular with the kids for years.

You ride like a broomstick and feel like a real little witch.

Meanwhile, the big witches can watch Karsten blowing glass.

"Unfortunately, the interest in watching here has decreased from year to year," says the glassblower.

But the witch flight school is thriving all the more.

There she sits in front of the entrance of her tent with magical and enticing eyes: Of course, the "seer" Tania must not be missing.

The look into the future is still the "App of the Middle Ages".

Whether crystal ball or cards, Tania knows a lot to interpret.

The Middle Ages and falconry go together like butter on bread.

Sylvia & Bernhard know a lot about it.

You and your animals are taking part in the Schongau Summer for the first time.

A magnet for visitors, of course, most of whom have never seen a bird of prey up close.

Of course, Lubow shouldn't be missing

What would the spectacle on the fairground be without Lubow the fakir?

He has been delighting audiences with his show for years.

Standing barefoot in a heap of broken glass is just as convincing as lying on the bed of nails.

Human bodies as extra weights are the salt in his soup.

He has mastered playing with fire perfectly: even lying on his back, he spits his flames meters high into the sky.

The highest art of a fakir.

Unfortunately, the acrobatic group “vis-á-vis” from Huglfing only comes out on weekends.

The gymnasts use lifting figures to tell true stories about the Middle Ages.

Resourceful and with a lot of body control.
