A day after the ceasefire went into effect during the "Dawn" operation against Islamic Jihad terrorists in the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Yair Lapid spoke yesterday evening (Monday) with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

"The leaders discussed the importance of strengthening and developing normalization between Israel and the countries of the region, and the importance of dialogue for the sake of regional stability.

"The president, on the other hand, brought up the Palestinian issue before the prime minister. Lapid emphasized his view that the economic situation of the Palestinians should be strengthened. The two also discussed humanitarian issues important to both countries, and continued economic cooperation."

Lapid summarizes the "Dawn": "All the goals of the operation have been achieved"

Did they discuss the issue of the prisoners and the missing?

As for the mention of "humanitarian issues important to both countries" that the leaders discussed, it seems that he refers to the issue of Israeli prisoners and missing people.

It is also possible for the jihadi detainees imprisoned in Israel that Egypt has promised to work for their release within the framework of the ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued this evening, Lapid said, after thanking the Egyptian President and the Egyptian Minister of Intelligence, Abbas Kamal, for their recent efforts: "We continue to work against them to bring our sons home. Until Shahdar and Oron, may their memory be blessed, and Abra and Hisham do not return - our work is not complete."

Let's recall that throughout the day, Israeli officials went out of their way to emphasize the important role of Egypt and al-Sisi in achieving the ceasefire agreement.

This morning, a senior political official said that Egypt had a central role in the agreement, and later another official said that "Israel is very grateful to Egypt and President al-Sisi for their efforts to achieve the ceasefire."

"Cairo strives to renew the hope of the Palestinians"

"Israel Hayom" learned that during the conversation, al-Sisi stated that Egypt was leading efforts to contain the situation on the ground and to prevent the expansion of the framework of the conflict and the increase of military operations.

He emphasized that it is important to build the current calm and cut off any attempt to incite tension, whether in the West Bank or in Gaza, as well as take immediate steps to improve the economic situation in the Gaza Strip to ease the deteriorating conditions, continue to improve economic relations with the Palestinian Authority and support Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu balance.

In a statement published by the spokesman of the Egyptian presidency, it is also stated that al-Sisi emphasized in a conversation with Lapid that Cairo "aspires to renew the hope of the Palestinian people in achieving peace and their legitimate rights."

According to him, this is what will end the cycle of repeated violence and open the door to an opportunity for settlement efforts and achieving stability and peace in the region.

The Egyptian announcement did not mention the jihad prisoners.
