Monkey pox: an incident in a Paris vaccination center causes a temporary closure, the first-time vaccinated recalled

2022-08-08T17:44:18.320Z

The doors of the Edison vaccination center, in the 13th arrondissement, will not reopen until Tuesday after 24 hours of unexpected closure

The incident falls badly, at a time when the number of cases of monkeypox is increasing in France, at the rate of 70 new cases per day on average, the vast majority of which in Île-de-France.

“Due to a break in the cold chain within the Edison monkeypox vaccination center (XIIIth arrondissement), the center had to close temporarily,” said the City of Paris in a press release published on Monday.

The vaccination center is due to reopen on Tuesday, August 9.

According to the town hall, this break in the cold chain has altered "the qualities of several batches of vaccines administered between August 2 and 4, 2022".

If this entails “no health risk”, a new first injection is required to allow recipients of the vaccine to be “effectively protected”.

As a result, the center has decided to provide dedicated slots for these new injections this Wednesday.

“I was told that it would not cause any health problems”

The town hall of Paris took the lead by contacting, by email and telephone, all the people who received a dose of vaccine against monkeypox at the Edison center during the three days concerned.

The latter have the possibility of making a new appointment.

To do this, they are invited to dial two specific numbers, Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: 01.44.97.87.15 or 07.88.33.66.19.

A "break in the cold chain" "altered the qualities" of vaccines against #monkeypox administered from August 2 to 4 at the large Edison center in Paris, which had to close.

attaches with the vaccination center to find a new slot.

“I was told that the health agency had assured that the dose was not effective, but that it would not cause any health problem”, reassures this 21-year-old Parisian.

On the phone, he was in any case confirmed that “all those vaccinated on those days are concerned”, without exception.

Despite these explanations received by telephone, Ali remains perplexed.

"I wonder, however, how for three days we were able to vaccinate with vaccines that were not at the right temperature..." The break in the cold chain would be due, according to the explanations that were reported to him, to the refrigerator which “was above 8 degrees with the high temperatures”.

For Ali, the appointment will wait a bit.

"I'm not in Paris at the moment, so it's complicated to get re-vaccinated," says the young man.
