Weather in Bavaria: The heat wave is followed by a risk of severe weather - DWD warns

The change in the weather - longed for by many - is evidently coming late on Friday evening.

"In the evening hours until Saturday night, heavy thunderstorms are spreading from the west," writes the DWD in its forecast.

The weather service has therefore issued advance information on severe weather before severe thunderstorms, which applies from Friday, 6 p.m. to Saturday, 3 a.m.

The thunderstorms that are looming are tough.

According to the DWD, they are accompanied by “severe gusts of wind of around 100 km/h, hail of 2 cm and sometimes extremely heavy rain of over 40 l/m² within an hour.” Locally significantly higher amounts of up to 70 l/m² can fall over several hours .

In the second half of the night, the thunderstorms from the west gradually subside.

Weather conditions with "high storm potential"

The advance information serves as an indication of a weather situation with "high potential for severe weather".

It should enable the timely preparation of protective measures.

Thunderstorms with the side effects mentioned often only occur “very locally”, but usually hit these locations with full intensity.

Where exactly the thunderstorms will occur and at what time can only be predicted with the official warnings during the course of the day.

In the south of Bavaria, “heavy heavy rain” is to be expected on Saturday night.

But one thing is clear: It will be significantly cooler.

In the south of Bavaria, where the thunderstorms will hit particularly hard this time, temperatures will drop to maximum values of around 21 to 23. The weekend will therefore be significantly cooler for at least half of Bavarians.

But even in the north there should no longer be 30 degrees, but only a pleasant 24 to 26 degrees.
