Renaud Girard: "The Third World War without wanting it?"

Are we crossing today, in the Strait of Formosa, a dangerous geopolitical phase, which would recall that of Balkan Europe at the beginning of the summer of 1914?

Are China, the United States and Taiwan now advancing, like sleepwalkers, towards armed confrontation, like Austria-Hungary against Serbia, an ally of Russia, after the Sarajevo attack?

We can ask ourselves the question when we see the unnecessarily risky postures chosen first by the Americans, then by the Chinese.

Did the American Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives, really need to visit Taiwan on August 3, 2022, knowing that this visit would infuriate the Chinese communist power?

Was it not enough, for the morale of the courageous Taiwanese democracy, that Joe Biden had, in a press conference held in Tokyo on May 23, 2022, assured that America would intervene militarily if the island were attacked by the forces of Communist China?
