Permanent traffic jams and years of chaos on the streets: That is the horror scenario in Karlsfeld.

Because the Allach Tunnel on the A 99 is being renovated.

Concerns about a traffic collapse are growing in the municipal council.

Karlsfeld – It is the bogeyman of the Karlsfeld community: the renovation of the Allach Tunnel on the A99 near MTU.

To be more precise, the impending permanent traffic jam.

As reported several times, in order to repair the motorway tunnel, one tube each will be closed, there are only two lanes instead of three, and at night the tunnel, which is around one kilometer long, will be completely sealed off at times.

"It has a few horse feet that will hit us very hard," prophesied traffic officer Bernd Wanka (CSU) in the most recent municipal council meeting.

There he informed his colleagues about the status of the mega-project.

Refurbishment of the Allach Tunnel: Fear of permanent traffic jams in Karlsfeld

There was a lot of concern in his speech.

Because the CSU politician fears a traffic collapse - on parts of the A 8, the middle ring and also on the municipal area of Karlsfeld.

The city of Dachau also fears a massive evasive traffic.

On average, 320,000 vehicles use the A 99 in the Allach Tunnel area.

And every day.

This large mass of commuters will have to use the surrounding road network during the five-year construction period in the Allach Tunnel.

Wanka believes: "They direct all traffic at the Ludwigsfeld junction onto the B 471." Eversbuschstrasse in Allach, Bayernwerkstrasse and the already congested Münchner Strasse (B 304) would also feel the effects of the evasive traffic.

Years of construction work in the Allach Tunnel: No regulation for alternative traffic

So far, there has been no solution for the many cars to drive along while the tunnel is being renovated without permanent traffic jams occurring in Karlsfeld.

"Maybe I'll sleep one night on the city map," said Wanka ironically.

Then he might come up with a solution in this way to prevent the impending gridlock.

According to the traffic officer, there is still no need to get hectic, but it is important that the Karlsfeld municipal council deal with the issue.

Because “the drivers are coming.

Over the Moos, over Eschenried.

They drive around the tunnel whenever they can, and then we get crazy.”

The traffic officer's urgent appeal was therefore: "We have to prevent this in good time!" He asked the municipal council members to contact him with ideas.

Every idea is welcome, no matter what faction.

Fear of traffic gridlock: prioritize renovation of the B 304

Before the tunnel renovation begins, the municipality of Karlsfeld has to deal with another important project: the repair of its own local roads.

We really need to get the Roads Department to do the necessary repairs before the tunnel is closed.

Adrian Heim, Alliance for Karlsfeld

Above all, the B 304. As Adrian Heim from the Alliance for Karlsfeld noted, the Münchner Strasse first had to be renovated in "several places".

"We should definitely get the road building authority to carry out the necessary renovations before the tunnel is closed," said Heim.

"It would be a disaster if the construction work in the tunnel also had to take place during the construction phase in the tunnel."

It's just not possible for them to build anything bigger in our orbit, otherwise we'll be gone for good.

Traffic officer Bernd Wanka, CSU

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Dachau newsletter.

The road construction office in Freising, which is responsible for construction work on the B 304, must bring forward all renovation measures for the next ten years and start now, demanded Heim.

This also includes projects within the framework of the transport development plan that are pending in the near future.

“We cannot build on the road in the village at the same time if the road has to be able to function as a diversion route.

That's not possible," emphasized Heim.

"It's not possible for them to build anything bigger in our orbit," agreed Wanka.

Otherwise, according to the gloomy prognosis of the traffic officer, "we're definitely gone".

And then there's the Deutsche Bahn...

And Wanka turned the horror scenario even further.

Because Deutsche Bahn has also announced renovation work.

For the planned tramway between Moosach and Karlsfeld, the underpass on Dachauer Straße in Moosach has to be renewed - the next Herculean task for the traffic planners.

If they also block Dachauer Strasse for us, then we'll only walk because then we won't be able to get our cars out of the garage.

Traffic officer Bernd Wanka, CSU

Because the underpass will then be closed for three years.

"If they also block Dachauer Strasse for us, then we'll only walk because we won't be able to get our cars out of the garage anymore," Wanka stated dryly.

"When it comes, it'll be fine."

Pressure on road authority, but there is another player

Mayor Stefan Kolbe assured that he would get in touch with the Freising road construction authority, but at the same time dampened expectations.

At the road construction office, one or the other project will not go ahead at the moment due to a lack of staff, he said.

Then the road construction authority would have to prioritize, replied Adrian Heim, who wanted to believe that there was hardly another project in Bavaria with such a critical bypass situation as the Allach Tunnel.

"The detour routes must not break down during the detour phase," he warned.

Mayor Kolbe noted that they were not dealing exclusively with the Roads Department.

There is another player: the Autobahndirektion.

Getting the two players to work together, according to Kolbe, will also be an important topic in the near future.
