In criticizing the Kretschmann government, the SPD and FDP often go hand in hand.

But the resentment of FDP faction leader Rülke is growing among the Social Democrats.

SPD man Stoch believes that his behavior is playing into Kretschmann's hands.

Stuttgart – From the perspective of the SPD, the chances of a traffic light alliance in the south-west have recently decreased significantly.

"When I hear the FDP in the state parliament talking about energy policy, education policy, and Corona, I sometimes have difficulty recognizing sufficient intersections," said Baden-Württemberg SPD leader Andreas Stoch of the German Press Agency in Stuttgart.

The Social Democrats are particularly annoyed by FDP parliamentary group leader Hans Ulrich-Rülke, who recently saw himself increasingly exposed to accusations of populism.

"I don't know if Mr. Rülke would be willing to get involved again in an objective consensus that would make it possible for the SPD, Greens and FDP to form a government," said Stoch.

Green and black currently rule the southwest.

Rülke is considered a biting rhetorician, but he was repeatedly accused of populism and AfD methods in the hunt for attention.

Rülke repeatedly accused Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) of being authoritarian, Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) accused of an "attack on the separation of powers", spoke of a "state secretary's popular storm" in the Ministry of the Interior, and described the state government as a zoo.

At the end of June, he caused a lot of trouble with a post about climate activist Greta Thunberg and electromobility - the forwarded image combination was "fake news".

"In my view, Rülke's behavior makes life too easy for Kretschmann in particular," Stoch told dpa.

"This country could be better governed - and I contend it would be better governed by any other government.

However, the statements that are made are not helpful in proving that," said Stoch.

Flashback: Just over a year ago, Stoch and Rülke were still courting Kretschmann to form a traffic light alliance in the southwest.

However, he opted for a new coalition with the CDU, even though they had suffered heavy losses in the state elections.

Kretschmann justified the rejection with the FDP and Rülke - for Stoch a pure pretext.

In the exploratory talks with the FDP and the Greens, he had the impression that he had cleared all possible stumbling blocks.

SPD party and faction leader Stoch is certain: "Right from the start, Kretschmann had no intentions other than to continue governing with the CDU."

Stoch is all the more annoyed about his opposition colleague.

Since the exploratory talks failed, he has taken positions in many areas "that would definitely not have been part of a traffic light government policy."

This gives the impression that Kretschmann may have been right in his decision.

"That's why it annoys me - because every time Rülke brings another action like the further distribution of this post, Green MPs look at me, shrug their shoulders and say "You see!"

Stoch is convinced that the country needs a different government.

Greens and CDU blocked each other.

"In my view, everything that could be done politically has gotten caught up in this small-small and in this war between the Greens and the CDU." Most recently, the coalition partners argued about the truck toll, the renovation of the opera house and nuclear power.

"I have the feeling that the CDU is taking these crises as an excuse in many places to revive their old topics like political undead," said the Social Democrat.

The wedge between the Greens and the CDU is now becoming more visible.

"The areas of conflict that the CDU is now opening up - almost every week - are explosive for this state government." And the Prime Minister, according to Stoch, is pushing all responsibility away from himself.

"Kretschmann looks on and does nothing." He expects very little from the government in the coming months and years, Stoch summed up.
