Russia today informed the United States that it will temporarily withdraw its facilities from inspections under the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START 3) due to Western sanctions against it.
“Moscow made it clear to Washington that sanctions violate the parity of inspections under the START treaty, but it has not received a response,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, RT reported, stressing that the restrictions effectively deprive Russia of the right to verify in the United States.
The ministry described this decision as temporary, stressing its "willingness to cancel the decision immediately after eliminating all problems related to inspection activities by foreign colleagues."
In 2021, Russia and the United States announced the entry into force of the decision to extend the START 3 treaty concluded between them on the reduction of strategic offensive arms for a period of five years, which also includes carrying out inspections at facilities to ensure compliance with the terms stipulated in the treaty.
