Sa'ar: "There is no Israeli commitment to release the top official from Islamic Jihad" | Israel today

2022-08-08T06:31:29.891Z

With the end of the "Dawn" operation, the members of the Knesset addressed the issue of the release of the head of the Islamic Jihad in Samaria who was arrested last week • MK Regev on Hamas: "He did not take part because he was deterred in the Wall Guard operation"

While the Islamic Jihad claimed that the ceasefire agreement includes a commitment by the Egyptians to act for the release of Bassem al-Saadi who was arrested last week in Jenin and the administrative detainee Khalil Awadah, Israel denies such a commitment.

Ziad Nachala, Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad, said last night (Sunday) "The enemy tried with all his might to reach a ceasefire.

For 48 hours the contacts did not stop to reach an agreement.

And we stipulated that Basim al-Saadi and Khalil Awawada would be released, and the enemy was forced to accept these conditions with Egyptian guarantees.

Egypt pledged to act to release Saadi as soon as possible.

If Israel does not meet these obligations, we will renew the campaign and the fighting again and we will not hesitate."

Minister of Internal Security Omer Bar-Lev addressed this morning on Kalman Lieberman's program on Network B the Islamic Jihad's demand for the release of Saadi.

"Israel did not agree to anything. Al-Saadi is like any security prisoner who is under administrative detention. At the end of the detention period, the Shin Bet will assess the situation and decide whether to release him at the end of the period or to extend it.

Most of the times the Shin Bet decides to extend it. So Israel has not committed to anything, and nothing is hidden from the public eye."

Justice Minister Gideon Sahar also spoke this morning with Effie Trigger on GLAZ and commented on Saadi: "There is an Egyptian obligation to act for his release, there is no Israeli obligation.

Not moved by the threats of an estate from Tehran that is far from the bombings in Gaza and the mentality of its people who have been hit hard.

The Islamic Jihad learned the lesson that the attempt to create a new equation - failed."

Al-Sadi was arrested last week in view of intelligence provided by the General Security Service that he had recently worked even harder to restore Islamic Jihad activity in the West Bank, and was behind the building of a significant military force of the organization in Samaria in general, and in Jenin in particular.

According to the Shin Bet, the presence of al-Saadi was a significant factor in the radicalization of the organization's operatives in the field.

"Hamas was deterred by the guard of walls"

MK Miri Regev told Aryeh Golan on Channel 2 that "throughout the operation we showed national responsibility - unlike Lapid, Gantz and Lieberman who criticized us at Shumer Chomat.

Hamas did not take part because it was deterred by Operation Wall Guard.

If the operation was not in a transitional government, they would not have embarked on this operation, because they would have depended on the fingers of Abbas and Taha."

MK Nir Barkat of the Likud referred to the visit against the head of the opposition Binyamin Netanyahu who held a security meeting with the Prime Minister: "First of all we should congratulate that Netanyahu came forward and gave his support, we proved that in the war on terror there is no right and no left. Anyone who tries to harm Israelis - blood on his head ".
