Today, the People’s Assembly’s Local and Urban Development Committee discussed the role that council members should play for the success of local council elections by pushing people with competence and ability to nominate and expanding in holding seminars to introduce the benefits of the local administration law and the powers granted to local councils according to it.
Committee Chairman Mustafa Layla stressed during the meeting the necessity of making this constitutional entitlement a success by delivering people who are able to lead their local communities and advance them economically, socially and in service, explaining that it is important that the council’s role as the legislative authority be integrated with the executive authority in supervising and following up on council elections and participating in this national entitlement from During the selection of qualified cadres to lead the next four years.
Laila called on the members of the People's Assembly to carry out their duties and responsibilities towards this important constitutional entitlement and to engage the scientifically, culturally and socially qualified cadres and push them to nominate and elect them to reach the management of local councils and provincial councils because we need what we need in these circumstances for the success of these elections and access to elected councils that represent the people and work for the benefit of their communities.
The head of the committee pointed to the importance of the new financial law on administrative units, as it contributes to achieving greater financial revenues for them to enable them to advance their service and development situation, indicating that work is underway to transfer some of the competencies and powers to local councils to be able to carry out their responsibilities and expand the scope of their projects to include all sectors.
The members of the committee confirmed that conducting this constitutional entitlement on time is a victory for Syria and evidence of its recovery. Therefore, work will be done in cooperation with the local community to produce effective forces in society, in which the citizen is the compass for their activities and work, and their delivery to the management of local councils with confidence.
Committee members pointed out the importance of promoting the elections on a large scale and introducing the local administration law in seminars in which all organizations and unions participate.
