Beijing promulgated and implemented the National Security Law for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in June 2020. In July of the same year, Hong Kong established the National Security Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
After the change of the SAR government, Chen Guoji was promoted to Chief Secretary for Administration, and his post of Secretary General of the National Security Committee was replaced by former Deputy Secretary of the Security Bureau, Au Zhiguang.
