The Russian army fired cruise missiles towards western Ukraine this morning (Monday) when two of the missiles were intercepted over the city of Oman, an important Jewish center south of the capital Kyiv.
According to reports in the local media, the two missiles were intercepted by the air defense system of the Ukrainian army, but parts of the interceptor missile landed near the city and a loud explosion was heard on the spot.
There were no casualties in the incident.
Shlomi Elisha, Deputy Director of Rescue Ukraine and one of the most prominent activists in Uman: "There was no fall in Uman.
Remains of one of the interceptors fell in the area in an open area, without casualties.
The Ukrainian army has an advanced interception system, especially in the Cherkas region."
"This is the first shooting in the Uman area since the first week of the war. We hope that this will not affect the decision of whether Hasidic people will be able to come to Uman on Rosh Hashanah, but the priority is the safety of the public. If there is a fear that someone will be hurt - you should not come," added Elisha .
