Albuquerque police are tracking a vehicle that may be linked to the murder of four Muslim men in New Mexico between November and June.

"We have a very, very strong track," explained Mayor Tim Keller.

It is a sixth-generation Volkswagen Jetta (sold between 2011 and 2018), metallic charcoal or dark gray, and with a New Mexico license plate, according to official Cecily Barker, who did not explain what relationship the car may have with the crimes.

The car (with tinted windows and minor body damage, according to police) was recorded by security cameras near one or more crime scenes, according to the NBC News news network.

The mayor explained that they don't know who owns the car, and police asked anyone with information about a vehicle that fits that description to call (505) 843-STOP.

Police believe the four attacks may be related and that the victims were likely the killer's target, although they have not specified whether he is a serial killer and whether his crimes are motivated by hatred of the Muslim community.

The first murder occurred on November 7.

The body of Mohammad Ahmadi, 62, was found in a parking lot behind the

meat business he ran with his brother.

A Pakistani immigrant, Aftab Hussein, 41, was killed on July 26;

A week ago another man, Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, 27, was found dead near the University of New Mexico.

And at midnight on Friday, Naeem Hussain, a Muslim from South Asia, was shot dead, according to police.

President Joe Biden expressed his disgust this Sunday at the possibility that the violence was motivated by the religion of the victims: "I am angry and saddened by the horrible murders of four Muslim men in Albuquerque," he said on the social network Twitter .

"My prayers are with the families of the victims, my government stands firmly with the Muslim community," he said.

“These hate attacks have no place in the US,” he added.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, state police, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined the investigation, with Gov. Michelle Luján Grisham saying Saturday that she had ordered the shipment of more state officials to the city to help.

"I know that together we condemn senseless killings," Albuquerque's mayor said at his press conference on Sunday.
