Accident at the Cergy-Pontoise leisure island.

A 4 and a half year old boy was transported in serious condition to Robert-Debré hospital (Paris 19th century), this Monday, August 8.

It was around 3 p.m. when a witness pulled the unconscious child out of the water.

Firefighters arrived shortly after.

The boy had resumed cardiac activity when he was taken to hospital by the Samu, escorted by the police.

When the drama happened, the child was in the swimming area with his family.

According to the management of the leisure island, his parents would have left him under the supervision of his 8-year-old brother, who lost sight of him at some point in the afternoon.

The father and brother were seen by the medico-psychological unit set up by the emergency services.

They were left behind by paramedics.

A fatal drowning last summer

The swimming area was evacuated at the time of this accident and closed for the rest of the day.

It should in principle reopen this Tuesday, August 9.

A fatal drowning took place last summer on the leisure island of Cergy-Pontoise.

An 8-year-old girl was found unresponsive 25 m from the edge, in the swimming area, at a place where the water level is around 1.60 m, on August 14, 2021. She did not know swimming and was not wearing armbands.

Rescuers were unable to revive her.

This year, the leisure island has set up a new learning pool where swimming lessons are offered for children from 4 to 12 years old.
