Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's reckless visit to Taiwan made Washington commit three mistakes, one of which is illegal interference in China's internal affairs.
"The US side's blatant interference in China's internal affairs firstly showed," Wang was quoted as saying yesterday during his visit to Bangladesh. To the Chinese territory of Taiwan, “stressing that it should be understood that Taiwan is not part of the US territory, but part of the Chinese territory, and the US side has publicly pledged to respect this fact.
Wang added that the visit also proved that Washington is colluding with and supporting the so-called "Taiwan independence" forces, while any country should protect national unity and not allow secessionist elements to act recklessly, and the United States deliberately sabotages peace across the Taiwan Strait, which is known to everyone always creates problem first and then use it to achieve its strategic objective.
He pointed out that there are indications that Washington, by organizing Pelosi's visit, is trying to repeat its old tricks and seize the opportunity to enhance its military deployment in the region, which requires high vigilance and a strict boycott from all parties.
China's resolute stance, as well as its justified, reasonable, legal, necessary, frank and proportionate countermeasures, is aimed at safeguarding China's sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity, preventing the United States' attempt to "use Taiwan to contain China" and earnestly safeguarding peace across the Taiwan Strait as well as regional stability.
Wang stressed that the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs is the "golden rule" for developing relations between countries and for safeguarding the sovereignty and security of developing countries, and the international community should reach clearer consensus and speak louder for joint adherence to the basic norms governing international relations and international law and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of all developing countries.
In turn, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said, "The People's Republic of China urges the United States to take into account the most important interests and serious concerns of Beijing and to abandon the illusion that it can use Taiwan to control China, and urges it not to follow the wrong path further and further."
In this context, the Chinese army announced today that it will continue carrying out military exercises in the maritime and air fields in the vicinity of Taiwan, with a focus on joint operations to repel submarines and attacks at sea.
