An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck off Indonesia's eastern Maluku province, but no casualties or damage were reported.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said that the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 176 kilometers under the seabed, 189 kilometers northwest of the Kepulawan Tanimbar district of the province, was monitored, "without issuing warnings of a possible tsunami."
