The development of scientific research and ways to improve the international classification of educational institutions was the highlight of the discussion of the participants in the interactive workshop organized today by Damascus University in cooperation with the British University of Ulster under the title “Senior Personnel Development Program… Institutional Classification and Sustainable Growth” at the Reda Saeed Conference Center.
The President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, confirmed that the workshop comes within the ongoing scientific activities of the university and an important part of its current work plan to upgrade its classification and develop the teaching process, indicating that work is currently underway to develop and improve the reality of the technological and informational infrastructure at the university through an automation project that includes all work joints. The university’s administrative and technical project, including the university’s website development project.
Al-Jaban pointed out that the cadres of Damascus University, despite the difficult circumstances, continue their scientific and research activities and researchers.. and its students record outstanding achievements in terms of scientific publishing in prestigious international fields.
Dr. Yasser Khadra, Director of Scientific Research at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research gave a presentation in which he talked about the current reality of scientific research in Syria and indicated that the number of master’s theses registered at Damascus University for the year 2022 reached 683, while the number of doctoral theses reached 155.
Khadra reviewed the most important proposals necessary for the development of scientific research in universities, which are the development of legislation regulating scientific research and activating the link between education and society and thus linking scientific research to the needs of society and the importance of networking between research institutions from universities, centers and bodies and activating the contribution of the private sector to support scientific research and development of research laboratories and the creation of quality research centers At the national level, to collect expertise and harmonize scientific research with development requirements, stressing the need to give priority to applicable scientific research according to available scientific capabilities and resources, and the need for financial support for scientific research projects.
In his lecture, Dr. Maher Al-Masry, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Ulster in Britain, spoke about how to improve
Quality and global ranking of educational institutions in light of an international competitive market, pointing to the importance of focusing on the curricula approved in universities and the need to support the practical side of it to be able to compete with curricula in the world, stressing the importance of moving away from randomness in work and focusing on building the university infrastructure again and developing a plan A specific strategy with a clear time period that is built on correct foundations.
Dr. Maysoon Dashash, Director of the Medical Education Program at the Syrian Virtual University, also talked about the mechanisms for improving the ranking and classification of Syrian universities and the procedures that must be followed from adopting a strategic plan in this field, as well as adopting technology in an orderly manner.
