Astonishment and outrage in the Republican camp after the "raid" on Trump's house Israel today

2022-08-09T15:21:11.698Z

Angry reactions among Republicans compared to sympathetic reactions among Democrats • "The Ministry of Justice has reached an unbearable level of politics"

The US is still in turmoil after the nighttime raid by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on former President Donald Trump's home in Palm Beach, Florida, in search of documents he allegedly took with him after losing the election.

Along the length and breadth of the political spectrum, it was difficult to remain indifferent in the face of unprecedented scenes in which dozens of FBI agents were seen raiding the prestigious complex on the orders of the authorities.

Ahead of the mid-term elections and the approaching primaries for the leadership of the Republican Party, governors, senators and legislators who are members of it reacted with fury while the Democrats "celebrated" an event that is happening for the first time in American history.

At the same time, close associates of President Joe Biden conveyed messages according to which he was not informed in advance of the FBI's action.

"I've seen enough," Republican lawmaker Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, wrote in a statement.

"The Ministry of Justice has reached an unbearable level of politicization," he added.

The conservative lawmaker in the Florida State House of Representatives, Anthony Sabatini who is running for Congress in the upcoming election, reacted with fury.

"It's time for us in the Florida Legislature to call an emergency session and fix our laws regarding federal agencies," he wrote on Twitter.

"All ties with the Department of Justice must be severed immediately. Any FBI agent conducting law enforcement actions outside of our country's jurisdiction should be arrested on the spot."

Senator Lindsey Graham, representative of the state of South Carolina, also referred to the search of Trump's home with a response on the Twitter account in which he wrote that "No one is above the law. The law must be above politics", he explained while at the same time emphasizing the timing of the raid.

"Time will tell about this investigation. However, opening such an investigation of a former president close to the elections is beyond problematic."

The conservative media also reacted with astonishment.

One popular host, Jesse Waters, described the search of the former president's property as "crazy" and called for the FBI director to be fired for being "corrupt."

Trump's supporters gathered outside the mansion in the "Mar-a-Lago" golf complex and vented their frustration in a spontaneous demonstration early Tuesday morning (Israel time).

"This is another unjust act like the invented impeachment attempts," said Jim Whelan while holding a large sign that read: "Fake News is CNN."

An unnamed source involved in the investigation told The Washington Post that FBI agents conducted a search under a court-ordered law investigating "alleged mishandling of classified documents that were sent to Mar-a-Lago," the report said.

Earlier this year, in February, the same newspaper published that among the materials allegedly taken by Trump were a series of documents with a "top secret" classification.

"This has never happened to the President of the United States before," Trump said in response to the raid on his home. "After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this raid on my home was neither necessary nor appropriate.

They are afraid that I will run for president in 2024.

This is political persecution, the US has become a corrupt country."
