A tragic riding accident occurred in the Schwandorf district.
An eleven-year-old died on a ride because the horse was frightened.
The fact that horses are prey animals is shown again and again in dealing with them.
As soon as they see something that seems dangerous to them or hear noises that frighten them, they flee, as is ingrained in their instincts.
This often leads to dangerous situations for both animals and humans.
In Wernberg-Köblitz in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf, the escape of a horse ended in tragedy.

Wolves also live in more and more forest areas.
In the event of a meeting between rider and wolf, the working group horse and wolf recommends the following:
Never gallop away in haste, but keep calm.
Place the horses next to each other (as individual riders also alone) facing the wolves so that the horses can see the wolves.
To avoid alarming the horses, do not clap your hands or wave your arms.
According to a study, every fifth horse is afraid of noise.
If the wolves do not go away immediately, you should walk slowly towards or past the wolves.
Under no circumstances should you follow the wolves or ride after them, for example to take photos of the animals.
Wolves, like all wild animals, are ready to defend themselves when cornered.
If a dog is included in the ride: Be aware that wolves may view dogs as competitors in their territory.
Dogs should therefore be on a leash in wolf areas and stay with horses and people.
Deer, on the other hand, are harmless, even if horses can get frightened of them from time to time.
The same applies to lynxes that live in the Palatinate Forest.
