Crèches: the use of unqualified staff is controversial

A necessary easing to respond to the serious shortage of early childhood professionals?

While half of the nurseries lack staff, a decree published on August 4 in

the Official Journal

allows nurseries to recruit, from August 31, people without the qualifications required until now.

After having listed the diplomas and training necessary to work in this sector, this text provides

“exceptionally”

and

“in a local context of shortage”

that

“derogations from the conditions of diploma or experience”

can be granted.

This derogation raises concern among many early childhood professionals.
