22 million Kenyans will be able to elect a new president, members of parliament and governors this Tuesday.

The previous head of state Uhuru Kenyatta has to step down after two terms of office, leaving behind a country with ambitious infrastructure projects, but also serious problems: the national debt is immense, the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, among other things, have caused the cost of living to explode, and a devastating drought is raging in the country north of the country.

The two most likely candidates, Raila Odinga and William Ruto, have fought a bitter election campaign, sitting close in polls with a slight lead for opposition leader and former Prime Minister Odinga.

William Ruto is entering the race as acting vice president, but he has fallen out with Kenyatta.

Young voters in particular have little confidence in politics, and there is great concern that voter turnout will be low.

In 2021, the project was extended by almost three and a half years until spring 2025 under the same conditions.
