Former US President Donald Trump announced that FBI agents raided his residence in the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
"These are tough times as my home in Palm Beach, Florida is under siege, raided and occupied by a large group of FBI men," Trump was quoted by AFP as saying in a statement posted on his social media platform (Truth).
Trump considered that what is happening is misconduct by the attorney general and the use of the justice system as a weapon and an attack by Democrats who are trying desperately to prevent him from running for president in 2024.
In turn, the FBI refused to comment on whether it was conducting a search or the purpose of the raid, but several US media quoted sources close to the file as saying that the search was carried out with court permission and related to a possible mishandling of confidential documents transferred to (Mar-a-Lago). ).
And last February, the US National Archives revealed that it had recovered 15 boxes of documents from Trump's residence in Florida, including, according to the Washington Post, highly classified documents that Trump carried with him when he left Washington after losing the election.
The recovery of the boxes raised questions about Trump's compliance with presidential records laws that were put in place after the Watergate scandal in the 1970s and require presidents to keep records of their work, while the National Archives requested that the Justice Department open an investigation into Trump's practices.
Trump is also under investigation for attempts to alter the outcome of the presidential election in Georgia, while his business practices in New York are investigated in separate civil and criminal cases.
