First drive: Range-Rover Diesel 350 HSE

For many years now, the Range Rover has been providing an answer to those who want luxury and quality, and also to those who want the scent of old money that it emits to stick to them. The new generation continues to offer impressive capability wrapped in uncompromising quality

There are not many examples in the automotive world of a brand that is so loved by different types of customers.

The range, which traditionally serves the British royal family, has become a favorite of the newly rich.

A status symbol, adopted by those, footballers for example, perhaps hoping to become part of an old exclusive club.

Regardless of all that, a new generation of Range Rover is cause for celebration, even if the test vehicle has settled in with a lackluster diesel engine.

The new generation of the Range Rover presents a very impressive appearance, one that stands out against any background.

The test car wore an unpretentious white color and yet, with its massive dimensions and new design, it is hard to ignore.

Keeping a relatively cubic design, it still looks like a Range Rover, but of a new breed.

There is a lot of technology here of course, from the latest generation of the air suspension system to the rear steering and of course the passenger cabin also transmits on the same technological frequency.

In addition to the generous space, you can also find here large information and control screens, high-quality trim materials, an extraordinary audio system, and more.

The large central screen attracts attention and it is almost impossible to notice the design work of the dashboard, which sends a reminder of the previous models.

The traditional armrest, attached to the seat, is also very difficult to feel here.

Between the massive seats and the wide armrest between the front seats, it seems that there is no place or need for this.

The busy roads in this part of the world don't really disturb the rest of the new range.

With an absurd curb weight, large suspension cushions and all the insulating materials known to man, the ride is not only very comfortable, but also incredibly quiet.

The score here could have been perfect, had it not been rolling on oversized 21-inch rims with low-profile tires.

It should undoubtedly wink at trendy nightclub owners and visitors.

As far as road manners are concerned, the Range presents a mature and drama-free behavior.

In tight conditions the heavy weight and respectable roll angles are revealed and he definitely prefers a relaxed and fast and less frantic cruise.

The familiar diesel engine gets a good score here only because of the isolation that makes it imperceptible.

Although the performance is very good, a car like this deserves a more impressive powertrain.

And of course it's impossible without a short taste of the field.

The Range is equipped with all of Land Rover's current off-road repertoire and this means a fairly comprehensive response to any unpaved road.

As with the others, here too the control of the locking is at the discretion of the system itself and cannot be controlled by the driver.

But what really limits us is the expensive chassis and the low-cut tires.

So we sampled a bit of sandy terrain - one that would not be damaged by any component - and also paths with a different ironing level.

The Range Rover can do all these and much more, but tell if any of its buyers will actually try such tricks.

This machine continues to offer everything that made it iconic.

And it does so with exciting new packaging and also with technological evolution in everything related to operation and comfort.

It also shows a very significant price jump, in Israel and significantly.

And here also comes the only question mark - is the off-road capability of the range still relevant for you.

If so, it is almost unrivaled.

If not, there are quite a few impressive luxury cars in its price range that will offer clear advantages on the road.
