The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the USA yesterday (Monday) raided a "Mar-a-Lago" vacation home in Palm Beach, Florida, which belongs to the former President of the USA, Donald Trump.

"These are dark times for our nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is now under siege," Trump said. "It's just been taken over by a large group of FBI agents.

"This has never happened to the president of the United States before.

After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this raid on my home was neither necessary nor appropriate.

They are afraid that I will run for president in 2024.

This is political persecution, the US has become a corrupt country."

According to the former president, the agents even broke into his safe.

According to reports, Trump himself was not present at the mansion at the time, but at his home in Trump Tower in New York, and the searches focused on the area where his offices and personal residences are located.

The mansion, which has been owned by Trump since 1985, contains 128 rooms and covers an area of 5.8 hectares.

It includes the "Mar-a-Lago" club - a club closed to members that contains guest rooms, a spa, and other hotel-style facilities.

The US Department of Justice has two open investigations related to Trump.

One is about the attempt to cancel the presidential elections in 2020 and in connection with the invasion of the American Congress on January 6, 2021. The second is related to the handling of classified documents.

The website of the British Independent states that in the meantime photos have been published that claim to show torn pieces of presidential documents that Trump himself allegedly tried to flush down the toilet - something that is prohibited according to the American law that requires him to keep documents of this type.
