Walpertskirchen

- Looks funny, but has a serious background: with a self-made sign in the shape of the character Homer Simpson from the TV series "The Simpsons", the residents near Homerweg and Erlenstraße in the new housing area in Walpertskirchen are pointing out an urgent traffic problem : The district road ED 20, on which the settlement is located, is driven on much too quickly.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.

As residents report, drivers in the residential area before leaving the town in the direction of Neumaggen would already accelerate considerably.

Since many young families with small children live in the settlement area and school children also have to cross the ED 20 on their daily way to school, the question arises for the residents as to why the entire settlement area is not being effectively protected.

A speed limit of 30 km/h for the district road begins shortly after the new development area in the direction of the train station.

The municipality has already acted several times because of this traffic problem.

So far, she has not submitted an application for the extension of a 30 km/h limit, but she has tried a different route: a request has been made verbally and in writing that the place-name sign from Walpertskirchen be moved further in the direction of Bockhorn.

The municipality argues that reducing the speed to 50 km/h would take away some of the speed.

It is clear to the municipality that this does not comply with the road traffic regulations, but there are comparable places in the district where the place-name sign was erected long before construction began.

In response to our request, the district office writes: “In 2021 we rejected a relocation of the place-name sign and a speed limit outside of town.

We even improved the current reduction to 30 km/h on Bahnhofstrasse in 2021 and put up additional signs so that speed measurements can be properly punished." that an extension of the speed limit “cannot be legally justified”.

The residential streets Homerweg and Erlenstraße are correctly signposted with a 30 km/h zone and are therefore restricted.

The ED 20 as a district road serves regional traffic and can therefore be driven on at 50 km/h in this area.

Walpertskirchen has now taken a further step and carried out a traffic count with measurements at the ED 20 near Erlenstraße.

It was confirmed that the permitted speed of 50 km/h in the direction of the town exit was often significantly exceeded, according to the town hall.

The count and the measurement were forwarded to the district with a corresponding application and the request for "a renewed examination with regard to possible measures to reduce speed at the beginning of the residential development".

According to the municipality, it would also be helpful and supportive if the residents would contact the district office themselves with their concerns.
