The District Court in Tel Aviv this evening (Tuesday) overturned the Likud's inter-jurisdictional decision and disqualified the candidacy in the primaries of his uncle Laniado, a party member who was previously convicted of burglary and assaulting a woman.
In doing so, the court accepted his petition in the matter of party chairman and opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu.
The court's decision was made hours before the opening of the finger stations across the country, which are expected to open at 09:00 tomorrow morning. Yesterday the Supreme Court of the Likud confirmed Laniado's candidacy Netanyahu petitioned the district today through the Likud's ombudsman.
This is an unusual intervention of the court in the internal proceedings of judicial party institutions.
District Court Judge Einat Ravid rejected the decision of the Likud court on the grounds that the decision is neither reasoned nor coherent.
According to her, the decision lacks a legal and factual basis that explains why it was decided to overturn the decision of the Likud Election Committee, which disqualified Laniado due to hiding part of his criminal past.
