About two weeks ago, the spokesman of Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a press briefing that this is a legal issue that does not affect the relations between the countries.
"The situation calls for careful conduct," Dimitri Peskov said.
"There are questions about the extent to which the agency implements Russian law. But there is no need to turn this into a political issue that will affect the entire relationship between Israel and Russia. At the same time, we need to be aware that all organizations must follow Russian law. This is true for everyone."
In response, Prime Minister Yair Lapid's office also tried to lower the level of the flames.
"Israel-Russia relations are based on heritage, a continuous connection and mutual interests," the bureau's statement reads.
"The place of the Jewish community in these relations is central. If there are indeed legal issues that arise in relation to the important activity of the Jewish Agency in Russia, Israel, as always, is ready and invited to hold a dialogue on it while maintaining the important relations between the countries."
