It was 1:40 a.m. on June 12, 1955, when Arthur Keser, the head of Mercedes' press service, ordered Alfred Neubauer, the German brand's race director, to stop the two 300 SLR trays which were turning like clocks on the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit.
The number 19 piloted at this moment by the Englishman Stirling Moss controls the race with two laps in advance.
The order comes from Dr. Fritz Könecke, the chairman of the board of the star firm, whom Keser has just spoken to on the telephone.
