What have we been waiting for and fearing and hoping for... Will the Wiesn take place in 2022?

Under what conditions?

Is it worth taking dirndls and lederhosen out of the closet?

The answer is yes.

Because anticipation is known to be the greatest joy, it is now slowly starting to be thought about outfit, hairstyle and ideas for the big day.

So that dirndls and lederhosen from the last Oktoberfest season are also very trendy in 2022, we have been looking for new Oktoberfest trends and great accessories for you that refresh every Oktoberfest outfit - at a low price.

Oktoberfest: What's new in 2022?

In 2022 there will again be something new to discover at the Oktoberfest.

A new family carousel with twelve gondolas that swing freely up to 360 degrees and rise and fall as if on waves awaits in the Circus-Circus.

Virtual reality fans can master various challenges in teams of up to four people in the "OktobVRfest-Virtual Reality" with their own VR glasses and controllers.

The new "Jungle Archery" shooting shop requires maximum concentration for hobby shooters.

But there is also a lot going on among the Wiesn hosts in 2022: the Bräurosl has reinvented itself under the new host Peter Reichert, the same applies to the new "Münchner Stubn" under the hosts Kathrin Wickenhäuser-Egger and Alexander Egger.

This year, the "Wiesn Insel Cocktailbar" will provide a Caribbean feeling at the feet of Bavaria with various cocktails and organic drinks.

The Oktoberfest will take place.

[ ... ] We have dealt a lot with the question of whether it is possible to control (2G, 3G).

However, the effort is not possible neither in terms of personnel nor financially nor technically.

Oktoberfest: trend towards naturalness

What is already apparent in everyday life in many areas from food to living is also achieved at the Oktoberfest.

Nature and naturalness characterize the look and almost forgotten accessories are on the rise.

Good old Gamsbart, for example, is very popular with men.

Around 33 percent of single women shared the same opinion.

In Bavaria and Austria, the chamois beard is a sign of “Schneid” – courage.

Originally made from the hair of the chamois (chamois), today also partly from red deer or badgers, this hat decoration made in Germany is part of the picture at the Oktoberfest more often than it was a few years ago.

Oktoberfest: Who invented it?

The people of Munich, of course.

Or more precisely: Crown Prince Ludwig, who opened the first Oktoberfest with a big horse race on October 17, 1810 for his marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

A meadow on the outskirts of the city was chosen as the venue, which was christened “Theresienwiese” in honor of the bride.

The meadow was perfect for such an event, because the Sendlinger Berg, today's Theresienhöhe, could be used as a natural grandstand for 40,000 spectators of the race.

However, this horse race only developed into the world-famous Oktoberfest towards the end of the 19th century.

Because of the often last beautiful, warm last days of September, we celebrate the Wiesn a few weeks earlier today in the so-called Indian summer.

Oktoberfest: Exciting facts about the Wiesn

In 2019, 7.3 million liters of beer were drunk - that's almost three times the amount of the Munich Olympic swimming pool.

But that's not the only exciting record of the last Wiesn.

  • Surveys and calculations revealed: 6.3 million festival visitors spent a total of approx. 448 million euros at the Wiesn over 16 days.

That is an average of 71.12 euros per capita.

  • Out-of-town visitors left another 289 million euros in the city for food, shopping or public transport.

  • Guests also spent around 513 million euros on hotel accommodation and gastronomy.

  • Around 435,000 fried chickens were sold at Oktoberfest in 2019.

Despite rising gas prices, Hendl will not become more expensive in 2022.

Oktoberfest or: Why is the Oktoberfest called "Wiesn"?

Also new in 2022: The city of Munich has had the terms “Oktoberfest” and “Wiesn” patented, but the process was not officially completed until this year.

But why is the Oktoberfest actually called “Wiesn”?

This is because the people of Munich have always found the name of the fairground "Theresienwiese" too cumbersome.

The Theresienwiese became "d'Wiesn" — the Bavarian abbreviation of "die Wiese".

The festival originally took place in October, hence the name Oktoberfest.

It has remained until today, but the date has been pushed forward to September.
