They still exist: construction sites that are running faster than planned.

The full closure of Oskar-von-Miller-Platz will be lifted again on Saturday (13 August).

Instead of four, only two weeks lock - that also pleases the retailers around the square, who are already feeling sales slumps.

Holzkirchen

– The weather played along.

Since August 1, when construction work began on Oskar-von-Miller-Platz, there has hardly been a drop of rain.

Above all, however, the subsoil, where the municipal utilities ran a 20,000 volt cable from Baumgartenstrasse to the new buildings on Rosenheimer Strasse, proved to be much clearer than feared.

"We thought that we would encounter more crossing lines that could get in our way," says Harald Feldner, site manager for the municipal utilities.

But it was not like that.

And that halves the construction time.

As early as Thursday, says Feldner, all the trenches will be backfilled and asphalted.

The construction site is scheduled to be cleared on Friday (12 August).

"On Saturday, the course should be freely passable again," says Feldner.

Good news, not only for drivers who have to resort to large-scale detours due to the full closure.

The surrounding retailers can also take a deep breath.

Haushamer Mathias Simsch, who took over "Farben Hainz" in 2021, drummed up some retail colleagues yesterday to discuss the situation.

The meeting took place before the lockdown reduction was leaked.

"Our customers should know that we are there for them despite the construction site," says Simsch.

You can park nearby, for example in the Herdergarten, and the shops are easy to reach.

"Walk a few steps, that should be doable," says Gabriela Gabrielli from the fashion café Cose Cosi.

Simone Kropp, owner of the boutique Simode, agrees.

"It's not far - and most have two healthy legs."

The walk-in customers are missing

Nevertheless, the complete closure deters some customers.

"The walk-in customers are missing," says Kropp.

One shouldn't underestimate, adds Gabrielli, how many non-Holzkirchners and also tourists are out and about in the village.

This clientele is the biggest source of revenue for Thomas Häusler's Tupperware shop.

"Tourists like to buy from us," says Häusler.

According to his own statements, he has lost 80 percent of his sales since the construction site started.

He would have liked the market community to be more accommodating.

He knows communities where trade tax is suspended for the duration of such construction sites.

Wine merchant Hans Priller thinks that's exaggerated.

“Where do you start and where do you stop?” Like Kroll, Gabrielli and Simsch, he fundamentally agrees with construction site management.

We were informed in writing and via email.

And if there is a construction site, then August is the least of the evils.

Mayor Christoph Schmid had visited all affected shops in advance and asked for understanding.

He cannot understand the desire for a trade tax discount: "Everyone benefits from a good infrastructure, including shop owners." Construction site – that works.” Well intentioned, say Kropp and Priller, but that comes too late at Oskar-von-Miller-Platz.

What is striking, says Kropp, is how many drivers drive through the construction site despite the prohibition signs.

“And then yelling and honking your horn.” Gabriela Gabrielli also observed this – and was surprised that the workers mostly stayed calm.

In general, she knows of customers who enjoyed the lack of traffic noise - and didn't see the hard-working workers as an impertinence.
