Before the decision about a Rammstein concert on the Theresienwiese, there are allegations against economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU).

The Association of Munich Cultural Organizers accuses him of giving the Leutgeb concert agency competitive advantages.

Munich – The possible Rammstein concert on New Year's Eve on the Theresienwiese with 145,000 visitors continues to heat up the spirits.

On Tuesday, the Association of Munich Cultural Organizers (VDMK) got involved in the debate with an open letter.

In it, the association, which represents 110 hall operators and cultural event organizers, attacks economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU).

The chairman of the VDMK is David Süss, who sits on the city council for the Greens.

Among other things, the association writes that it has repeatedly asked the Department of Labor and Economics whether additional space could be made available for open-air events.

“The department wanted to help make these areas possible.

The horse race track in Riem was particularly discussed.” The trade fair in Riem should be made possible as a possible alternative location for the time when the Olympic Stadium is being renovated, if no other locations can be found.

"To the great surprise of the association", plans for three major concerts - Andreas Gabalier, Helene Fischer and Robbie Williams - became known in the summer of 2021 in the fair in 2022.

Organizer: the Leutgeb Entertainment Group, which had not previously organized in Munich.

We are still waiting for the requested statement from the department.

The department had previously asked the members of the association to only hold major concerts in the Olympic Stadium.

Inquiries about the use of the Theresienwiese were discouraged because of the expected complaints from residents and the objections of the district committees.

It is all the more surprising that speaker Baumgärtner also supported the Leutgeb agency in holding an event on the Theresienwiese with the Rammstein concert.

"This event company has been put in a position to conduct an unequal competition." Especially since members of the association themselves prepared "up to four concerts" by Rammstein in June 2023 in the Olympic Park.

The concert on the Theresienwiese completely torpedoed these plans,

Baumgärtner zu Rammstein in Munich: "Before I lose such a concert to another city..."

Speaker Baumgärtner replied that there had never been a specific request from the association for an event of this magnitude.

“Concerts that are possible on the Olympic site should continue to take place there.

The Olympic Stadium is undoubtedly the number one venue.” Helene Fischer announced 130,000 visitors, according to Baumgärtner, “that is only possible at the exhibition center”.

Regarding the Rammstein request, the speaker said: "Before I lose such a concert to another city, I'll try to make it possible.

But ultimately it has to be decided by the city council in this case.”

As reported, there is a majority from the SPD and CSU.

However, there are also reservations.

The comrades tabled an amendment on Tuesday.

In principle, approval is signaled, but the final decision on approval is up to the security authorities.

"We would be happy if it works," says SPD leader Anne Hübner.

"But of course the safety of the event is our top priority."

Rammstein in Munich: The police and district administration department have so far rejected major events

As reported, both the district administration department and the police are very critical of the concert.

KVR boss Hanna Sammüller-Gradl (Greens) saw the short-term as a problem.

Some of the agency's other concerts have a year's lead time.

Leutgeb approached the city with the idea of the New Year's Eve concert and asked for approval by August 10th.

Otherwise, an alternative location would be sought in North Rhine-Westphalia.

However, at least in Essen, it doesn't seem to exist anymore.

The city rejects the plans, as reported by the WAZ.

Although there is interest in using the Zeche Zollverein site, the size cannot be managed, said the managing director of Essen Marketing, Richard Röhrhoff, the newspaper.

"Two people per square meter - that would be 75,000 square meters." And that's not all: there would also be areas for logistics, gastronomy and railings.

“That would be 100,000 square meters.

It has the character of the Nürburgring.” That is why such an event in Essen is unthinkable.

And in Munich - at least from the point of view of the Greens - rather difficult.

"There is no empirical value for such a large concert on the Theresienwiese," said Green leader Mona Fuchs.

It would have to be carefully planned.

"It is also irritating that the criticism of the lack of safety and emission protection concepts put forward by many authorities is simply ignored by the speaker." As long as there is no concept on how dangerous concentrations of people can be avoided, and no comprehensive traffic concept, these plans are not ready for approval.
