After four days of unsuccessful search, there is sad certainty: Tobias D., who disappeared at the Brass Wiesn in Eching, is dead.

– After four days there is sad certainty: Tobias D., who disappeared at the Brass Wiesn in Eching on Friday, is dead. The 25-year-old was rescued lifeless from Lake Eching on Tuesday evening – almost in the immediate vicinity of the festival site.

Bathers bring lifeless bodies to shore

As reported by the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North, rescue workers were informed around 6.45 p.m. about a lifeless young man floating on the lake.

Before the rescue service arrived, the body was brought ashore by bathers on the eastern shore of the lake.

The emergency doctor who was called in immediately could only determine the man's death.

Both the appearance and clothing and personal belongings of the dead agree with the description of Tobias D., who has been missing since Friday. The Erding criminal police have taken over the investigation to clarify the cause of death on site.

As reported, the young man was on Friday with two buddies at the brass music festival at the leisure center in Eching.

Around 9 p.m., the three friends lost sight of each other at the Brass Wiesn, which drew around 20,000 visitors.

Shortly afterwards, the telephone contact also broke off.

Since then there has been no trace of Eichenrieder (district of Erding).

When her boyfriend didn't show up again the following Saturday, the two friends that Tobias D. was with at the festival reported him missing.

But the extensive search measures by the police, fire brigade and water rescue service - including a helicopter - were unsuccessful.

A search dog squadron was deployed on Sunday evening and Monday night with seven dogs.

But at that point the young man had been missing for more than 40 hours - in the meantime it had rained and there were many visitors - a bad starting position for the dogs to pick up the scent. 

Search operation with hundreds of participants

At the same time, the girlfriend of the missing person organized a private search operation on Monday and Tuesday, in which several hundred people, including many from Echingen, took part.

Volunteers were assigned to help the police on site.

Entire football teams joined the search.

Friends and family had asked the population on all channels for help, on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok the calls to keep an eye out for the young man from Eichenried (Municipality of Moosinning, Erding district) rolled over.

Nothing was left unturned to find him again, the desperation was great, as was the willingness of the people to help.

The private search was stopped on Tuesday afternoon, and around 70 police officers continued to comb the community of Eching and the surrounding area.

A spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North was still confident on Tuesday that the missing person would be found alive during the day.

That hope was dashed that evening.
