Emphasizing the role of women and their participation in public life, the hall of the Arab Cultural Center in Tartous hosted a dialogue session for pioneering women in the governorate as an embodiment of the national campaign to promote women’s participation in local councils for 2022.
Member of Parliament Siham Othman reviewed in her intervention luminous models of Syrian women who had an active role and presence in the development and advancement of society, pointing to the importance of the role of women as contributors to the process of renaissance and reconstruction after the years of war.
Alia Mahmoud, Chairman of the Tartous Governorate Council, spoke about the importance of women’s participation in candidacy and elections, as they represent more than half of society and are the cornerstone for its reform and advancement, in addition to the fact that she possesses great energies and capabilities that enable her to carry out pioneering leadership tasks that enable her to contribute to the development and advancement of society.
Director of Social Affairs and Labor in the governorate, Walad Jalab, stopped at the great role played by popular organizations and service directorates for women's work to take their real role in building society.
Somaya Fayyad, representative of the Awqaf Directorate, pointed out the importance of the symposium to focus on the positive role of women and the importance of their participation in local councils, based on the status granted by Islam, which gave them all their rights and equalized them with men.
Engineer Sarab drew attention to the impact that women have been able to have in society, as they excelled in many sectors and occupied important positions in the joints of life, stressing the role of young women at this stage to bring about positive development that is in line with the requirements of the stage and serves the goals of society in all sectors.
The Director of the Radio and Television Center in Tartous Governorate, media, Asima Hassan, considered the session a kind of galvanizing encouragement for women to run and vote, to speak out and to prove their presence with greater strength.
Hussein Muhammad, director of the Syria Youth Imprint Foundation in Tartous, pointed out that the foundation's participation in this dialogue session is to encourage women to exercise their rights and duties to prove their constructive position in society and to be stronger, more present and effective.
The Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministries of Local Administration, Environment, Endowments, Social Affairs, Labor and Information, and the Syrian Youth Imprint Foundation, launched on August 5 the national campaign to promote women’s participation in local councils for the year 2022 under the title “You Can… You Deserve.”
