Significant progress in the case of the children of Yemen:

for the first time, under the Children of Yemen, the East and the Balkans Law, the biological laboratory at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine was able to produce a full genetic profile of the remains of the deceased that were taken during the opening of the grave of the late Yosef Melamed. The opening of the grave was carried out in accordance with the law, led by the Ministry of Health .

The results of the tests were delivered today (Tuesday) to the court and the family representatives.

The genetic comparison between the produced profile will be carried out after receiving samples from the deceased's family members.

As I recall, when the tombs were opened in 1997, samples were sent to a leading laboratory in the world that failed to produce DNA.

The technologies and experience currently available to the laboratory at the Institute of Forensic Medicine make it possible to deal with decomposed DNA samples, at a low level of preservation, and in small quantities typical of the remains of the deceased who died many years ago.

It is important to note that in this case, the relative preservation of the remains of the deceased and the presence of first degree relatives, will allow the continuation of the identification procedure and a genetic comparison between the family and the remains exhumed.

That is, the next step will be to make a comparison between the genetic profile produced and the genetic profile of the family.

Adv. Rami Tzuberi,

The lawyer of the Melamed family, Rami Tzuberi, reports that "already at the time of opening the grave, the anthropologist who is next to me that I am consulting with told me that they will be able to produce a genetic profile.

This is what they failed to do when the graves were opened in 1997. Now that the Institute of Forensic Medicine has a genetic profile, we will do a similar test on the family for Mother Shulamit and then the family will express their opinion on these findings.

Right now we will receive the profile and do our test with all the technology and then we will respond officially.

Right now the family is waiting."
