Western musical pieces and lyrical links from the Syrian heritage and the Arab region were presented by the chamber choir of the Higher Institute of Music, led by Maestro Misak Baghboudrian, at the ceremony hosted by the Arab Cultural Center Hall in Tartous, in the presence of a large official, artistic and popular audience.

The program of the ceremony included the presentation of musical pieces, including the phantom of the opera, the music box, and others by the Argentine composer Piazzola, in addition to a group of oriental songs distributed choral as a sweet song, Ya Baladi and Al Rozna.

Maestro Baghbudrian said in a statement to SANA: “The collective choral singing represents a social musical condition that is increasing remarkably with the spread of local choirs, and it can be considered an integrated movement between the choir members and the community.”

Accordion player Wissam El Shaer talked about his multiple participations with the choir, pointing to the uniqueness of today's concert as it presents solo and tango in addition to traditional lyrical pieces from several Arab countries.

The professor of choir leadership at the Higher Institute of Music, singer Elias Zayat, considered that the choir knows Tartous audiences today with its professional performance of the musical styles it presents, including what is known as the classical and oriental style.

Singer Haneen Al-Halabi, a fourth-year student at the institute, specialized in opera singing, considered that the choir, as a social work, is a landmark of culture in society and provides a good cultural outlet, which makes that society characterized by openness and progress.

Fadi Jubaili on the piano, Laila Saleh on the double bass, and Mazen Hamza on percussion, in addition to a number of singers, including professors and students of the Institute.

It is noteworthy that the chamber choir was established about 22 years ago and is affiliated with the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus and includes professors and students of the institute with different specializations.
