The fight against the destruction of antiquities in Yosh: these are the steps taken against the rioters | Israel Hayom

An inter-ministerial committee was established to combat the destruction of antiquities in Judea and Samaria, an operation to recruit inspectors began • Minister of Construction and Housing Ze'ev Elkin: "Our job is to preserve each of these hundreds of heritage sites for future generations"

The state is moving up a gear:

after the Minister of Construction and Housing MK Ze'ev Elkin established a special inter-ministerial committee - the recruitment of additional inspectors for enforcement and supervision work throughout Judea and Samaria was also approved in order to combat the extensive destruction of antiquities carried out in the region by antiquities robbers.

The committee, which met for the first time last month, discussed the immediate needs needed to prevent further destruction of antiquities throughout the United States.

As I recall, in the shadow of the investigation in "Israel Hayom", just last week the heritage site "Old Samaria" (Sebastia) was set on fire and burned by Palestinians.

In aerial footage taken from a drone, Palestinians are seen setting fires around the area, burning twigs to clean, as they say, the area.

Even if it was not a deliberate arson, the result remains painful: the entire site went up in flames.

Sebastia is, perhaps, the point of view that most represents Judea and Samaria, since near it, in the abandoned train station from Saudi Arabia, the Jewish settlement movement in Samaria began in the mid-1970s.

The pictures of the fire at the site are difficult to watch, and the destruction of the ancient site, which includes the palace of Ahab, the king of Israel during the days of the Kingdom of Israel in the Bible, was enormous.

"We continue to fight the destruction of antiquities"

As mentioned, the recruitment of the inspectors, financed by the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, was done with the consent of the Civil Administration, KMT Archeology and the Antiquities Authority involved in the outline.

The inspectors will immediately join the Archeology CMT team which is in substandard condition and faces many challenges.

These moves join a previous decision by the Minister of Jerusalem and Heritage, Ze'ev Elkin, to allocate NIS 10 million to the fight against the destruction of antiquities in Yosh.

The decision included the establishment of preservation and rescue teams for the sites in the area as well as the restoration and development of the Hasmonean Palaces site near Jericho.

Minister of Construction and Housing, Jerusalem and Heritage, Ze'ev Elkin: "Step by step we continue to fight the destruction of antiquities throughout Judea and Samaria.

The history of the people of Israel in Judea and Samaria spans thousands of years since ancient times, up to the present day.

Our job is to preserve each of these hundreds of heritage sites for future generations.

The Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage under my leadership will continue to allocate significant resources and budgets to the fight against this despicable phenomenon."
