Wider sidewalks, narrower lanes and the redesign of a traffic island: These measures for the Greiling through-road have now been discussed in the municipal council.

Greiling – The district is planning to rehabilitate district road 12. The through road through Greiling is also affected.

The municipality has already used the district's project to carry out its own measures, such as the renewal of the water supply in Tölzer and Tegernseer Straße.

Before the upcoming asphalting of Töl 12, the spanning lights are to be replaced by light poles and the sidewalks in this area are to be widened.

Greiling: Precarious situations at property exits

One of them is the pedestrian and cycle path, which, coming from Bad Tölz, continues as a pure pedestrian path after the western confluence of the Karwendelweg.

Because many cyclists ignore this and continue to ride on the sidewalk, which is illegal, the municipal council was of the opinion that a crossing aid, i.e. a small traffic island, could help.

However, the responsible road construction office in Weilheim did not want to follow this argument, reported Marc-Christoph Zilka from the Tölz planning office Heubeck at the most recent meeting of the Greilinger municipal council.

The problem is that most landowners can only back out of their property.

Since the cyclists can only be recognized late, there have been several dangerous situations.

New sidewalk in Greiling makes the street narrower

The road is planned to be 5.50 meters wide up to the junction to the eastern entrance to Karwendelstrasse.

In the area of the entrance, the visual triangle and the location of the Telekom distribution box should be checked.

The Council was certain that installing a traffic mirror would greatly reduce the risk of accidents.

Opposite, in front of the entrance to the fire station, a bus stop without a bus bay is to be set up.

So the bus stops on the street.

Without felling a few ash trees, which Claudia Petzl brought up, it will not be possible to widen the sidewalk by 50 centimeters towards the center of the village.

Mayor Anton Margreiter is now to explore whether the landowner would agree to a new planting on his property in order to preserve the avenue character.

After the turn-off to the Bergweg, a new footpath with a new standard width of two meters is to be laid on the south side of the district road to the center of the village.

This would affect the lane width, which would then only be five meters.

Andreas Kastenmüller raised concerns here: “Contact traffic with agricultural vehicles is then no longer possible.

This is a step backwards.”

Discussion about sidewalk material in Greiling

Basically, Margreiter saw nothing negative in a narrower lane width.

Rather, it contributes to the deceleration of traffic.

Zilka should now try to narrow the new pavement to achieve a lane width of 5.20 meters.

"We will not be able to avoid issuing an absolute ban on stopping at the neuralgically narrow points and also having stationary traffic monitored there," said Margreiter.

The discussion as to whether granite format stone should be used for the new footpath for a long time took place.

A flat surface would definitely be better for older people or people with disabilities.

In addition, winter service could also be carried out more easily with cut stones.

Zilka should get offers for both options, although it would still be worth considering equipping the sidewalk on the opposite side with the same material.

Existing traffic island will be converted

At the junction to Sachsenkamer Straße, the existing traffic island is being rebuilt and redesigned.

It is given the shape of a drop and its rear area serves as a crossing aid over Sachsenkamer Straße.

The traffic island is only slightly elevated, but does not invite you to drive over the island permanently, Zilka made clear in response to a corresponding question from Claudia Petzl.

"I think the current island is beautiful, also because it is formative." She did not like the new solution with flower pots and pseudo-planting.

Zilka explained that Johann Fichtner's suggestion of using the traffic island as a means of crossing Tegernseer Straße could not be implemented.

In the further course of Tegernseer Straße, no more serious changes are planned or, as in the area of the church, not possible.

The planner will now try to accommodate the suggestions in the final version and then submit it again to the municipality.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.
