The head of the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections, Judge Counselor Jihad Murad, clarified that the committee, in its efforts to simplify the procedures for workers in public institutions, was satisfied with the job rank of the candidate from the institution in which he works instead of a certified copy of his scientific certificate.

Murad pointed out in a statement to SANA reporter that a resident other than his original governorate can run for local councils in the governorate in which he resides, provided that at least two years have passed since his residence in the place he wishes to transfer his electoral domicile to.

Regarding the progress of the candidacy application process, which began last Friday, Murad explained that it is proceeding smoothly with the provision of all required facilities in coordination with the Ministries of Local Administration and Environment and the Interior, noting that the number of applications for candidacy is increasing on a daily basis.

Murad confirmed that the end of receiving applications for candidacy will end next Thursday, and this period cannot be extended.

Counselor Murad indicated that any citizen entitled to vote can object to the decision to accept any candidate who violates the conditions of candidacy, and the applicant has the right to object to the decision of the nomination committee before the sub-committee within 3 days starting from the day following the date of the announcement of the names of those accepted, and the committee decides on the objection within 3 days From the date of submitting the objection and its decision shall be final whether or not it is accepted.

Murad made it clear that in coordination with the governors, the polling centers will be determined and the necessary supplies will be secured for them at least seven days before the date of the election scheduled for September 18 next.

It is noteworthy that the number of seats that candidates are competing for in the local administrative council elections is 19,086, distributed among governorates, cities, municipalities and towns.
