The miners Carlos Yépez Ospina, from Colombia, and Gregores Alexander Méndez Torres, from the Dominican Republic, were rescued this Tuesday at the Cerro de Maimón mine, in the province of Monseñor Nouel, where they were trapped for 10 days after a landslide occurred, reported the Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom).

The agency indicated that, upon reaching the surface, the miners underwent a medical evaluation.

They were then transferred by air to the Santo Domingo Military Hospital for a more exhaustive review of their health status, the company added.

Cormidom said that the rescue of the miners took place at 11:16 AM, local time, after accessing them through the new diversion tunnel referred to as rescue route B, one of the two routes that were created to reach the point where they met.

More than 70 underground mining experts from Cormidom participated in the operation, which began after the landslide reported on July 31.

The team was led by Paul Brown, Ben Burges and Sedden Temple.

The rescue group received the support of 40 technicians in the areas of geology, geotechnics and mining engineering, both from the Dominican Republic and from Australia, the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Peru, who provide services to the mining company and who worked on the surface." According to the authorities previously, the operation also had the collaboration of specialists from Canada's Moran Mining Group.
