In an interview, Trigema boss Wolfgang Grupp talks about money.

Among other things, he explains what he spends it on and why he only pays with cash.

Burladingen - A well-known saying goes: You don't talk about money.

But Wolfgang Grupp, head of the successful textile company Trigema in Baden-Württemberg, did exactly that in an interview. In 2021 he even spoke very openly about the subject of money and explained why, among other things, only the best quality is suitable for him.

For Wolfgang Grupp, money is a basis that gives him "a certain independence," but also a lot of responsibility, he tells Focus, as

summarizes.

"The more money I have, the greater my obligations." This would be particularly reflected in relation to his responsibility as an entrepreneur towards his employees.

"Money alone cannot bring happiness," he says.

The Trigema boss emphasizes in an interview that the appreciation of others is therefore more important to him.

Trigema boss Wolfgang Grupp only buys top quality and rejects "pointless luxury".

According to Grupp, whether you appreciate someone is also reflected in their clothing.

"Anyone who wears sweatpants does not value their counterpart," he said in another interview.

That's why he only spends his money on things that are top quality - such as his suits.

"These are tailor-made and therefore last a long time," he says.

“I have everything I need in optimal quality.

It's the same in my house," he explains.

This must also be representative.

"For me, the following applies: once correctly - and not only half and constantly having to improve it," says Grupp.

In his spare time, the entrepreneur spends his money on his own hunt and his 400-hectare forest.

In his opinion, however, these are valuables.

The Trigema boss, on the other hand, rejects "senseless luxury": "I also have Swabian dispositions." What he considers important and good, he usually affords.

He cites his helicopter as an example of this.

"I didn't buy it to show off, but to be able to constantly visit our test shops and thus be able to check them.

If I had to do this with the car it would be difficult and I probably wouldn't do it consistently.

But I have to do it so that I can tell immediately if something goes wrong!”

He uses the helicopter for around 160 to 200 flight hours a year, or the equivalent of 50,000 kilometers.

For longer distances to Hamburg, for example.

Or for shorter trips to Munich, for example.

"A Wolfgang Grupp pays everything in cash": Trigema boss largely dispenses with credit cards

Wolfgang Grupp doesn't think much of stocks or savings accounts.

He lets two bank friends manage his money, he says.

He also almost never uses his credit card: "Wolfgang Grupp pays everything in cash." This means he doesn't have to check as much afterwards, he says.

The entrepreneur also pays attention to thrift: "We don't throw away a piece of bread because it's hard." Nevertheless, he raised his children the way he was raised - very generously.

"When they said: We need a thousand pounds again, I transferred the money." Son Wolfgang Grupp Junior currently only wants to save on staff: The Trigema junior boss is planning "polo shirt machines" as a replacement for seamstresses.
