In order to help blind people learn Braille, the two young engineers, Mowaffaq Farhoud and Osama Rashwan, succeeded in designing a glove that contributes to providing them with the reading experience on their own, away from audio books and helping other people.

The goal of designing the glove, according to the two young men, is due to the lack of methods for teaching the blind, the decline in publishing and converting books in a manner compatible with the Braille language, and the lack of trainers specialized in teaching this language, in addition to the need for places designated to save Braille books because of their large size, which prompted him and his colleague to work on making the glove.

The young engineer, Mowaffaq Farhoud, a graduate of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University, specializing in medical engineering, explained to the SANA Youth Bulletin that the glove provided an educational style that provides an opportunity for the blind person to learn the Braille language and opened a large field and a wide range of books for him to read by placing any book in electronic form on a memory card. An external device is added to its electrical circuit, so a programmed microcontroller converts every letter in this book to conform to the Braille language.

On the mechanism of the glove’s work, the young man, Osama Rashwan, who is also a graduate of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University, specializing in medical engineering, explained that the points of the Braille matrix are represented by small motors that give small vibrations that the blind person senses on tiptoes, representing the five points in the matrix, while the sixth point is located inside the palm of the hand .

It is noteworthy that the glove project was among the pioneering youth projects that were hosted by the first pioneering investment forum “Opportunity 2022”, which was recently organized by the National Union of Syrian Students and the Young Entrepreneurs Association “SIA”.
