Al-Hasakah-SANA
The Arab Cultural Center in Al-Hasakah hosted a workshop as part of the national campaign to promote women's participation in local councils (You can.. you deserve). The participants discussed ways to motivate women to actively participate in the elections and the mechanism for attracting socially influential women.
The workshop, which was implemented by the Syrian Youth Imprint Foundation and the governorate of Hasaka, focused on the stages of development of women’s participation alongside men in building the modern Syrian state, pointing to the precedence in obtaining their constitutional rights over their counterparts in Arab countries, which made them free to choose and able to participate in political, social and cultural life.
The interventions also focused on activating the role of women and their participation in local council elections, whether to run for candidacy or electing, and the difficulties that affect that in terms of customs, traditions and customs that sometimes hinder the role of women to be active or participating, especially in the administrative and political aspect, and take the active role guaranteed by the Syrian constitution with the necessity of Intensifying the awareness and educational activity that motivates women to participate in the elections. During the workshop, examples of success stories of women from Al-Hasakah who participated in local councils and service administrations were presented.
The director of the Basmat Syria Youth Foundation in Al-Hasakah, Qais Aliwi, told SANA reporter that the work sessions, which are implemented in cooperation with many concerned parties, are motivating women to participate actively and emphasizing the role of women as a partner representing half of society.
The workshop was attended by the Governor of Al-Hasakah, Dr. Louay Sayyoh, and the Secretary of the Al-Hasakah branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, Eng. Turki Hassan.
