In NRW it will be summery hot and dry again this week.

But that also spoils the mood.

The risk of forest fires is increasing again.

Cologne – Bright blue skies and temperatures above 30 degrees in August once again ensure a high summer mood in NRW.

The weather invites you to go swimming all week long, because there is no rain in sight.

However, the extreme drought also causes problems.

Because this week the risk of forest fires in North Rhine-Westphalia is increasing rapidly again.

The German Weather Service (DWD) is already warning of "high danger" (level 4 of 5) due to the drought, especially in the south of NRW, reports 24RHEIN.

A large forest fire in Plettenberg on Monday showed how quickly it can happen.

In the meantime, around 30,000 square meters of forest burned in the Bommecketal nature reserve.

Weather in North Rhine-Westphalia: Hot and dry - the risk of forest fires is increasing

The sunny days with temperatures above 30 degrees are likely to attract many people in NRW to a trip to the outdoor pool or a bathing lake.

But above all, the extreme drought is causing many concerns.

Because the risk of forest fires will increase sharply again in the next few days.

The German weather service indicates the risk of forest fires in the so-called "forest fire risk index".

It has five warning levels, from "very low risk" (level 1) to "very high risk" (level 5) and is measured at various stations in the state.

The DWD has not yet declared the highest warning level 5.

The risk increases to warning level 4 (high risk) over large parts of NRW, especially from Thursday to Saturday.

Regions around Cologne, Düsseldorf and Duisburg are also affected.

Measuring stations in the Euskirchen district, Heinsberg district, Rhein-Sieg district and Düren district also report high danger.
