In the Ukraine war, Crimea is increasingly coming into focus.
A Ukrainian general is now promising the liberation of the region from Putin's army.
Munich - The Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, is still a major wound in the heart of Ukraine.
After the start of the Ukraine war on February 24, battles or a Ukrainian initiative for conquest were also considered possible there.
So far, however, there has been no fighting there.
Now the region could actually move into the spotlight.
There was an explosion at a Russian air base on the peninsula.
There are many indications of a Ukrainian attack.
Afterwards, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the "liberation" of Crimea.
A Ukrainian major general made a similar statement - also with regard to other regions occupied by Russia.
In addition, he even named a date for the Ukrainian victory, but at the same time tied it to a condition.

The troops of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin also want to take control of the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine.
Ukrainian Major General Dmytro Marchenko was assigned by Kyiv to defend the city.
Marchenko is apparently also partly responsible for the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the Kherson region.
In an interview with the Ukrainian news agency
RBC Ukraine
, he was full of hope.
"I want to say to the people of Kherson: be patient," Marchenko appealed to the people of Kherson.
The conquest of the area by the Ukrainian military will go faster than expected.
The major general emphasizes that the Ukrainian citizens will soon be helped, adding that the area can be recaptured from Russian troops by the end of the year.

Marchenko is not only confident about Cherson, but also about the recapture of other regions.
He particularly emphasized the Crimean Peninsula.
"We will liberate Crimea by military means," he told the Ukrainian news agency.
After all, the peninsula is still Ukrainian land and the Ukrainian citizens there live under occupation.
No one gave Russia the right "to come and take a piece of land and say it's his".
Ukrainian Major General Marchenko is certain: "We will retake Crimea, just as we will retake Kherson, Luhansk and Donetsk."

In an interview with
RBC Ukraine
, Marchenko also provided an assessment of when the war could end - with a victory for Ukraine.
He doesn't want to make any predictions.
"I believe that in the spring of next year we will celebrate the victory," emphasized the Ukrainian major general.
In spring, however, a victory can only be celebrated "if we have the amount of weapons that we were promised, that we need," he emphasized at the same time, complaining about the speed and volume of arms deliveries from the West.
"Unfortunately, the military aid promised by our Western partners is being made available to us in small numbers, which in principle makes it very difficult for us to carry out offensive actions," Marchenko said.
"I think once we get the full package of that help, our counteroffensive will be very quick," he predicted.
In an interview with the US broadcaster
CBS News
, he also called for more weapons from Western countries.
You are still inferior to the Russian military.
So you can answer 100 Russian missiles with only 10.
