140,000 voters will choose 110 candidates: the Likud primaries are underway
At the center of the preliminary elections in the largest party are the heated battle for a place in the top five, the struggle in the districts, and the questions of who will be the new members of the Knesset and which of the incumbent MKs will be pushed out. In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether the influence efforts of the party chairman Netanyahu succeeded in shaping the list to his satisfaction

Nearly 140,000 Likud officials will today (Wednesday) design the party list and vote in the primaries for the next elections.
About 110 polling stations placed throughout the country will open at nine in the morning, and are expected to close at nine in the evening, although traditionally voting is extended by an hour, until ten o'clock.
Voting in Likud is manual, on forms where the incumbents are asked to mark 12 names on the national list, and another name of a candidate in the geographic district where they live, where new representatives compete for places reserved in advance.
Therefore, the counting is also done manually in the branches, and the final results are expected to be received only tomorrow morning.
In total, about 110 candidates are running in the primaries: 70 of them are on the national list, and 40 of them are new candidates running within the districts.
The hottest battle is for the place at the top - the first five on the list, where all the contestants strive to get there.
According to the popular assessment in Likud, the first places are competing for the first places among others Knesset members Yariv Levin, Israel Katz, Yoav Galant and Eli Cohen.
All the other MKs serving in the Likud - from Miri Regev to Shlomo Karai and more - will try to place themselves as high as possible in the second five and the second and third ten, and above all - to maintain a realistic place. The
Likud list has reserved spots for the new candidates running in the districts, so inevitably some of the serving MKs are expected to be ejected from the list.
According to the estimate, this is about a third of the Likud's current team.
The battle is particularly difficult among Likud women: currently there are 8 female members of the Knesset serving in the Knesset, who are competing for 5 places reserved for women with the guarantee of representation in realistic places.
Hope to get a loyal list.

In recent weeks, Netanyahu and his people have invested great efforts to influence and shape the map of the contest in the districts, out of fear that some of the new candidates who will be elected will not be loyal to him, but to other senior Likud officials, as well as out of fear that officials with a criminal record will be elected who will tarnish the Likud list.
The most notable battle that Netanyahu fought was in the Tel Aviv district, against the candidate Dodo Lenyadu.
Laniado, who was convicted about a decade ago of assault and burglary, is considered a close associate of MK David Bitan, and Netanyahu tried for weeks to convince his associates to run against him for the district slot.
Despite his criminal record, the Likud's Supreme Court approved Laniado's candidacy, and Netanyahu in response yesterday appealed the decision to the district court. In an extremely unusual manner, Netanyahu even called publicly on Twitter not to vote for Leniado and to support other candidates in the Tel Aviv district, who is currently ranked 38th on the list. However, hours before the polls opened, the Tel Aviv District Court accepted Netanyahu's appeal and rejected his candidacy of Lenaido.
Who will be the new candidates who will be screwed in real places?
Most of the new candidates in the party are expected to be elected through the districts, but there are also new faces running on the national list: the former journalist, Boaz Bismut, who is close to Netanyahu, is running against the incumbent MKs and receives generous assistance from the party chairman.
Former ambassador Danny Danon and former Identity chairman Moshe Feiglin are also making a comeback and will try to be re-elected to a place on the national list. The son of the former prime minister, Gilad Sharon, who has been trying to be elected to Likud since 2016, will also try his luck this time to get on the national list.
The Likud functions are divided, more or less equally, between the members of organized parties, who vote according to lists dictated in advance by senior party officials and power groups, and those who are called the "free voters" - activists and supporters who do not listen to orders from above.
The ratio between them depends, among other things, on the voting percentages.
The higher the voting percentage, the weaker the effect of the deals and elimination lists.
In recent days, Netanyahu has worked to encourage voting in the primaries in order to increase the power of free voters and reduce the influence of the deals, which may strengthen senior Likud figures such as David Bitan, Israel Katz, and Chaim Katz.

He took pictures of phones, and sent text messages and messages urging people to go out and vote.
The voting rate in the last primaries held for the Likud list, in February 2019, was close to 60%.
More than 30,000 votes were needed to be in the top ten, and according to the estimate in Likud this time the numbers will be higher.
So who will take first place?
And will Netanyahu get a loyal and successful list in the end?
The picture will become clearer on Thursday morning.
Until then, stay tuned for all the updates and reports here at Walla!
